The new ID.4
World premiere of the all-electric SUV
After the ID.4 1ST, which will be delivered this year, VW wants to increase the number of variants from 2021. The 1ST relies exclusively on the 77 kWh battery, and a variant with the 52 kWh storage will also be added at the beginning of 2021. VW has only given a price of less than 37,000 euros for this. A 58 kWh version - i.e. with the battery that is built into the ID.3 1ST - does not seem to be planned for the ID.4 according to the current status.
In 2021, the electric SUV will also come in different performance levels. The ID.4 Pure with 52 kWh battery has an output of 109 kW, the Pure Performance model 125 kW. The ID.4 Pro has 128 kW, the Pro Performance (like the 1ST) 150 kW. Depending on the version, the torque is between 220 and 310 Nm. Regardless of the performance, the ID.4's top speed is limited to 160 km / h.
The operating concept of the E-SUV manages without physical buttons and switches. It is based on two displays - one of them with a diagonal of up to 12 inches and a touch function - and on the natural voice control "Hello ID.". The new ID.Light - a narrow strip of light under the windshield - supports the driver in an intuitive way. An augmented reality head-up display is available as an option, which merges some of the displays with reality - for example, navigation arrows are projected onto the road with lane accuracy. The Discover Pro navigation system brings We Connect Start's online services on board. The assistance systems from IQ.Drive make driving even more relaxed, this is especially true for the Travel Assist. The software and hardware of the ID.4 are designed in a completely new architecture, so the customer can get updates in the car after the purchase.
We Charge: charging at home, on the go and on long journeys
Together with the ID. Volkswagen is launching a complete package for convenient, networked and sustainable charging of e-cars under the We Charge concept. It always offers the right solution - at home, on the go and on long journeys. At a DC fast charging station, the ID.4 can recharge direct current for the next 320 km (according to WLTP, at 125 kW) in around 30 minutes.
At the same time, Volkswagen is building around the ID. Models an ecosystem of sustainable electric mobility. The ID.4 customers receive a car that has been produced in a CO2-neutral way. If you charge it with sustainably generated electricity - such as Volkswagen Naturstrom - it remains climate-neutral in operation.
Volkswagen's strategy: The future of mobility is electric
With the ID. Family, a new, independent product line, Volkswagen recently added to the brand's classic product portfolio. After the compact ID.3
the SUV ID.4 is the second fully electric model. With the ID.4, Volkswagen will in future be represented in the fast-growing global segment of compact SUVs. The ID.4 will gradually become an electrically powered world car, because the e-SUV is to be built and sold not only in Europe, also in China and later in the USA. The Volkswagen brand will invest a total of eleven billion euros in electromobility by 2024 as part of the “Transform 2025+” strategy.
